Nicky Wake is the founder of Chapter 2 Dating, a dedicated community and dating platform created by widows, for widows and widowers. The platform welcomes anyone who has lost a life partner or significant other—regardless of marital status, age, presence of children, or LGBTQIA+ identity—and offers a safe, understanding space for those navigating life after loss.
After losing her husband Andy in April 2020 at age 49, Nicky struggled to imagine dating again and found mainstream apps overwhelming, discouraging, and lacking the empathy widows need when taking those tentative steps forward. Inspired by the deep support she experienced within the widow community, she created Chapter 2 as a place where widows and widowers can truly understand one another’s grief while still honoring the desire to move forward. “Chapter 2” can mean different things for different people—friendship, companionship, support, dating, or physical comfort—and the platform reflects that range.
Built and partly funded by widows, Chapter 2 provides an exclusive app and website with a community forum, blog, and advice hub, all designed to support members who may be dating for the first time in years or have never dated online before. Safety and trust are core values: the platform uses a rigorous sign-up process, vetting of all profiles, robust reporting features, and secure data practices to protect vulnerable users. Chapter 2 also hosts free in-person events to help members connect in real life and encourages users to spread awareness so more widows and widowers can find solace, understanding, and hope. Ultimately, Nicky’s mission is to create the world’s best community for those who have suffered loss—helping each person move forward at their own pace and discover their own “next chapter.” Read more at: https://www.chapter2dating.app/
