05-25-2025Entrepreneurs: How To Create A Business Buyers Actually Want with Cameron Bishop + Others, Episode #258

Our Featured Guest for Sunday, May 25, 2025 is Cameron Bishop

In this episode, we sit down with Cameron Bishop, seasoned executive and managing director at Raincatcher, to unpack the emotional, financial, and strategic rollercoaster of selling a business. From lifestyle traps and unsellable companies to post-COVID burnout and vanishing employees, Cameron shares real-world insights into what makes a business truly valuable—and what makes owners finally say, “I’m done.”

Raincatcher is an Award-Winning National Business Broker and Mergers & Acquisitions Firm. Cameron has overseen a broad array of business scenarios involving start-ups, product line extensions, organic growth, international business, mergers & acquisitions (M&A), deal integrations, business reorganizations, and digital transformations. Over the years he has executed 40 buys-side and 20+ sell-side deals with enterprise value over $500 million. Throughout his experience, he came to understand that many business owners are improperly represented by brokers, which resulted in them leaving their businesses with less value than they should have.

He began his career as a copywriter, quickly rising through the ranks to lead Intertec Publishing as CEO. Under his leadership, Intertec expanded from a $7 million company with 90 employees to a $400 million enterprise with nearly 2,000 employees across 23 U.S. offices and several international locations. Intertec’s portfolio included 100 trade journals, 300 technical book titles, and a $40 million trade show and conference group, achieving $100 million in EBITDA despite navigating ownership transitions.

Cameron’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident when he co-founded Ascend Media, a PE-backed startup launched from his kitchen table. With a $100 million commitment from JP Morgan Chase PE, Cameron spearheaded the company’s rapid growth, building a $120 million organization with 500 employees in just three years. Ascend was recognized as one of the top 20 most desirable media companies to work for in the U.S., cementing its reputation as an industry leader.

In addition to his corporate success, Cameron has extensive experience advising private business owners through Capitus, where he helped clients ranging from $2 million to $100 million develop and execute strategic exit and transition plans. He also served as CEO of SkillPath Seminars, one of the nation’s largest management and leadership development training companies. At SkillPath, Cameron introduced innovative strategies, rebranded the company, streamlined operations, and harnessed data science and digital tools to enhance its offerings and market presence.

In his spare time, Cam has authored two books, Head Noise…Perspective and Tales from the Executive Suite and Onward and Upward…Motivational Advice for Career Success.

Cameron is a member of the Forbes Magazine Human Resource Council as well as a member of the Kansas City Business Journal Business Council. He is also a volunteer mentor for HEMP (Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program) in conjunction with the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Business. In addition, he serves as President of the Mission Reserve Homes Association Board of Directors. Read more at: https://www.raincatcher.com/

Satori was born into a lineage of powerful narrators—wise, elder Black women from the Jim Crow South of Alabama and Mississippi. These women told stories to teach, to warn, to entertain, and to impart hard-earned wisdom. They were masters of their craft. Listening to them was like watching a film unfold in the mind’s eye; they could make a simple trip to the corner store sound as epic as The Lord of the Rings. Storytelling is her gift and her calling—a perfect storm of her deep love for people and her lifelong passion for stories. This passion led Satori to become a Master Storyteller, Story Director, and Coach.

As a founding member and catalyst for the award-winning Obsidian Theatre Company in Toronto, Satori helped establish Canada’s leading culturally diverse theatre company in 1999. Her journey into storytelling began in 2011, where she quickly rose as a Moth Mainstage storyteller and host, captivating audiences on global stages, as well as on PBS, NPR, and acclaimed podcasts. Satori is the host for Detroit Performs Live for Detroit PBS. In 2024, she had the honor to emcee the Kresge Centennial Event where President Barack Obama gave the keynote address.

Satori’s impact extends globally. In 2018, she was invited by a peacekeeper of The United Nations to bring The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers to Utrecht, The Netherlands, to address issues of racism impacting Syrian and Somali refugees. She has earned numerous awards and accolades for fostering meaningful dialogue through storytelling. She was also honored by I.
